Senior Python Data Engineer – Healthcare EMR/EHR Integrations at BairesDev
In this role, you'll build automated data pipelines that pull clinical and patient data out of hospice and home health record systems and load it into a centralized platform. This is a hands-on engineering role where your Python skills and EMR/EHR knowledge directly speed up onboarding for new healthcare clients. This is your opportunity to work at the intersection of healthcare data and AI-assisted development, using modern tools daily to ship reliable pipelines.
What You'll Do
• Design and build automated ETL/ELT pipelines extracting clinical and patient data from EMR/EHR systems.
• Load extracted data into a centralized, HIPAA-compliant database.
• Design and tune MySQL schemas to support pipeline performance and scalability.
• Integrate with REST APIs and healthcare data standards such as FHIR and HL7.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools as part of the daily development workflow.
• Troubleshoot and maintain pipelines as new EMR/EHR sources are onboarded. What We Are Looking For
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with strong proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on experience working with data from EMR/EHR systems (HCHB, MatrixCare, WellSky/Consolo, Axxess, Careficient, HospiceMD, Hospice Tools, Epic, or Cerner).
• Background in MySQL, including schema design, indexing, and query tuning.
• Knowledge of REST APIs, JSON/XML, FHIR, and HL7.
• Daily hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor), and the ability to explain and verify AI-generated code.
• Advanced proficiency in English. Nice To Have
• Experience with Linux (shell, cron/systemd, log analysis).
• Familiarity with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, Pandas, or Celery.
• Knowledge of Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
• Experience with Snowflake.
• Background in SQL Server replication or log shipping.
• Familiarity with DigitalOcean.
• Knowledge of OpenAPI design, API versioning, throttling, and observability.
• Experience with identity resolution, MDM, or data crosswalks.
• Familiarity with HIPAA and PHI handling. How we do make your work (and your life) easier:
• 100% remote work (from anywhere).
• Excellent compensation in USD or your local currency if preferred
• Hardware and software setup for you to work from home.
• Flexible hours: create your own schedule.
• Paid parental leaves, vacations, and national holidays.
• Innovative and multicultural work environment: collaborate and learn from the global Top 1% of talent.
• Supportive environment with mentorship, promotions, skill development, and diverse growth opportunities. Join a global team where your unique talents can truly thrive and make a significant impact Apply now #BD-PRIO-2026
