Climate Change Mitigation Leader

A key role exists for a seasoned professional to oversee all project activities, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing large, complex development projects with a focus on climate change mitigation, sustainable land use, or environmental management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the program team, overseeing planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of activities to ensure timely delivery, within budget, and in accordance with USAID standards.
  • Serve as principal liaison with USAID staff, institutions, and client country partners to exchange information and develop professional relationships.
  • Provide technical leadership on natural climate solutions, reduction and mitigation of deforestation and land degradation, and climate financing, including monitoring, verification, and reporting of greenhouse gas mitigation.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate project reports to USAID, highlighting progress, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Spearhead strategy development and utilize managerial tools and frameworks to improve the ability of the team to achieve project goals successfully and sustainably.
  • Facilitate the development of the program’s evolving theory of change, overseeing the implementation of the work plan and tracking progress towards core indicators and learning objectives.
  • Administer the program’s financial oversight and procedures, ensuring compliance with established accounting principles and USAID regulations.
  • Represent the program to the public and donor community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural resource management, international development, or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
  • At least 10 years of experience in managing large, complex development projects with a focus on climate change mitigation, sustainable land use, or environmental management.
  • Strong understanding of climate change mitigation strategies, sustainable land management practices, climate finance, and community-based approaches.
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with host-country government officials, financial institutions, international donors, and private sector stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program design, resilience strengthening, policy dialogue, and systems improvement.
  • Experience working in Ecuador preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
