We are seeking a highly experienced Climate Change Mitigation Director to lead our Climate Change Mitigation through Sustainable Land Use Activity in Ecuador funded by USAID.

Job Description

The Climate Change Mitigation Director will oversee all project activities, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively, leading to the achievement of project objectives.

The director will lead a team of experts in climate change mitigation, sustainable land use, and forest conservation, and will work closely with government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all project activities, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively, leading to the achievement of project objectives.
  • Lead a team of experts in climate change mitigation, sustainable land use, and forest conservation.
  • Develop and implement strategies for sustainable land use and forest conservation.
  • Provide technical leadership on natural climate solutions, reduction and mitigation of deforestation and land degradation, and climate financing, including monitoring, verification, and reporting of greenhouse gas mitigation.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities.
  • Monitor and report on project progress and results, using data and metrics to track progress towards project objectives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Master’s degree in environmental or natural resource management, international development or relevant field is required.
  • At least 15 years of experience in climate change mitigation, sustainable land use, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of climate change mitigation strategies, sustainable land management practices, climate finance, and community-based approaches.
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with host-country government officials, financial institutions, international donors, and private sector stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and experience with USAID rules and regulations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program design, resilience strengthening, policy dialogue, and systems improvement.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Average salary range for this position is $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
