We are seeking a highly skilled Sustainable Land Use Specialist to join our team and contribute to our Climate Change Mitigation through Sustainable Land Use Activity in Ecuador funded by USAID.

Job Description

The Sustainable Land Use Specialist will provide technical leadership on natural climate solutions, reduction and mitigation of deforestation and land degradation, and climate financing, including monitoring, verification, and reporting of greenhouse gas mitigation.

The specialist will work closely with the project team to develop and implement strategies for sustainable land use and forest conservation, and will provide technical assistance to government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for sustainable land use and forest conservation.
  • Provide technical assistance to government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities.
  • Conduct research and analysis on climate change mitigation and adaptation options for sustainable land use.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities.
  • Monitor and report on project progress and results, using data and metrics to track progress towards project objectives.
  • Collaborate with other project team members to develop and implement project plans and activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural resource management, international development or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
  • At least 8 years of experience in sustainable land use, forestry, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of climate change mitigation strategies, sustainable land management practices, climate finance, and community-based approaches.
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with host-country government officials, financial institutions, international donors, and private sector stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and experience with USAID rules and regulations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program design, resilience strengthening, policy dialogue, and systems improvement.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Average salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
